O State adventures

Sorry about the delay of postings. For those of you who got our email- some of the public internet places are extremely protected by security stops.

Let's see, it seems so much has happened, I'm not sure where to start. Our time with Sam and Sarah in Roseburg was great. WE had a lot of time to talk and really get in touch with how each of us is doing. We also had some time to get some practical stuff done and help Sam and Sarah around their cute house. Jon and Sam spent some time cleaning the chimney, which was no easy job since the roof line was super steep. But after rigging some safety ropes they were successful! As the guys were outside figuring that out, Sarah and I were indoors trying to recover a chair in their livving room that Sam was cradled in as a baby. It was fun and after some frustrating points, we finished it! Another family heirloom restored.

We left Sam and Sarah on Wednesday, sadly, but knowing that we would see them again soon. We were so thankful for their generosity and hospitality and warm place to stay. We went west from their along hwy 42 which was beautiful. We arrived in Coos Bay just as in started to down pour. We were thankful for the great weather while we were driving. We set off to find my grandparents old place, they passed away 12 and 14 years ago, so I hadnt been there since I was 9! We found the house and were welcomed by the new owners and stayed for a long while taking lots of pictures of the place. We'll bring them back home to show the family who hasnt been there for a long time as well. It was really fun for me to take a trip backl to my childhood and fun for Jon to see where I grew up going. The basement still smells the same!

We stayed with my Aunt Janet that night, a nice reunion, I hadnt seen her in 10 or so years. She showed us all around the town. The next day we drove up the coast not sure where we wold stop, depending on weather. There has been a lot of flooding up north near Tillamook- yes like the cheese. The drive was beautiful again- great weather. WE stopped in Depoe bay a cute town between Newport and Lincoln City. After hearing of the huge storm that was coming in that night, we stayed in a motel right on the coast. It was great to spend some time walking along the cliffs. We even got to see some whales! I've been looking for whales almost every time we're on the coast- I've never actaully seen one, until now! we had binaculars and everything. I wanted to stay there all day just watching them. Very majestic animals.

We woke up to wind howling and rain outside coming down from the side- the wind was supposed to be 60 mph. So we spent a warm morning in the motel and packed up to head into the city. So we drove through the rain into the valley (thats what they call the I5 strip of towns) We arrived in Portland inteh afternoon and met up with our friend Luke Llamas. HE is actually here for a cross country race (western regionals i think) This is his last year to run, if his team makes it past this race, they go to nationals. While he went to lunch with his team, Jon and I took advantage of the indoor hot tub at his hotel. Very nice! they we met up and sat with coffee and talked for the rest of the afternoon. We missed Emmy, but we sent some prayers up for her. WE love you girl!

From there we spent the night with the Brong family- Katie Thaxters parents. We had dinner with them- BBQ even in the rain (i guess you just get used to doing everyhting in teh rain here) it was great! Elk cabobs- i dont think I'd ever had elk before- but loved it. They are a great family and are giving some eyes into the city and possible work connections for Jon. Elaine used to work for BLM Bureau of Land Management.

Phew- sorry about the long story! but this morning we are in the Brongs beautiful home, staying in Katies old room! Again they have offered us place to stay as long as we need it. People have been sooooo nice to us! Today we plan to head off and be Lukes biggest fans at the race. and then look at the city. its clear right now here, but i think it will rain later in the day. we'll see.

so... we are still having an awesome time here and are really thankful to be able to make this trek. We are coming closer to finding out where we want to be.

Hi Jon and Jamie,

I went to comment quite a few days ago and got frustrated trying to figure this out. Anyway, I will try again. After you left I read a great devotion on "Faith" and it reminded me of you both. "faith brings us into right relationship with God and gives God His opportunity.. . .Faith by its very nature must be tried, and the real trial of faith is not that we find it difficult to trust God, but that God's character has to be cleared in our own minds.. . . .Faith in the Bible is faith in God against everything that contradicts Him--I will remain true to God's character whatever He may do." Stay true to His great purpose for you. He will let you know what that is. In His time and His place. Love, Diane C.
