Ground hog day!

Happy Groundhog Day!
I hope you all are enjoying this holiday, yup thats right, its holiday. not many people really remember that its here and few who do, plan to celebrate it. But in our house we have decided to use whatever excuse necessary to have a little party. So we are having some friends over for dinner and are going to watch Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. So for those of you who don't know how this glorious day started heres some info, it started in Germany:

Legend said that if this day was fair (sunny), then the second-half of winter would be stormy. In their native land of Germany, the Germans looked at a badger to see if they could see his shadow. When they settled in North America in Pennsylvania, the local Indians had a great respect for groundhogs so they substituted a groundhog for the badger. And as they say, the rest is history and now every February 2, everyone looks to a small town in Pennsylvania for a weather prediction!

Groundhog Day Rule With The Groundhog Seeing His Shadow
If the groundhog sees his shadow, we have 6 more weeks of winter.
If the groundhog does not see his shadow, winter will end soon.

And so what happened this year....
...
...
...Well from my sources, it looks as if the ground hog did not see his shadow, whoo hoo here comes spring! ok probably and hopefully not for us here in Bend and Our fam in Vail, since i think we could both use some more snow for the slopes.

Okay, so I've been thinking this for the past few days and meaning to put it up...

I think we live in Narnia. We've had these frozen misty days that litter the trees with beautiful white frost. I went running the other day and as I crossed the river, I looked to my side over the bridge and I felt like I had run through the wardrobe, and I was in awe just like that little girl. I dont really have a perfect picture but heres one Jon took a few days ago while he was frisbee golfing. Not quite perfect but you get the idea. Its a magical place.

Well, we need a little bit more snow, but its has been dusting us for the past week, until 2 days ago or so. The sun has come out to pay us a visit and were enjoying it, so are the plants!

Oh yes, we celebrated Ground Hog day with Groundhog head bands, a groundhog book to read and color...lots of groundhog read aloud books, and a big poster of a real groundhog in the classroom... and then we put on our headbands and went to the playground to see if our shadows were there--sure enough we were "scared" and had to come back into the classroom!! (I'm glad we were not the official groundhogs)---love momfitch
