Green Thumb?.... we shall see

Ok so, I guess I'm becoming a true Oregonian. I started my morning with a run down the beautiful river trail, fueled up with some yogurt and granola(specially supplied by my sister!) and pondered the action under the soil of many of my newly potted plants. Pretty earthy huh. Well I dont think im going off the deep hippie end just yet- i still shower every day, but i do get so much joy from watching things grow. Maybe I have roots back to the hobbits. So far we have some herbs up and going. You can see some in the picture- from left to right, parsley, basil, oregano, then chives.
As you can see, we seem to be having some trouble with the oregano- any one have any tips? We just got some tomato seeds started- we want to grow them inside until june or so- I dont think we can put anything outside before that. Courtesy of Josh and Jana, we now have some daisy seeds, nasturtium seeds, and some California poppy seeds just planted (just so we don't forget our roots, haha) . We even have some potted flowering gerbera daisies- just to give us some hope for the seeds- sometimes it takes a while for those little things to grow, so hopefully the gerbera daisies will hold us over until the other seeds get going. Anyone want to bet to see which one sprouts first? So decide between- tomatoes, daisies, nasturtium, or poppies, and let us know. We'll soon find out, just how green our thumbs are.
Heres the garden so far...

P.S. - We sure have been enjoying all your comments, each time we read them- its kinda like hearing your voice. And those that don't always like to comment- we enjoy those phone conversations as always. Its nice to stay connected.

I love that you are planting all those things. Do you remember the vegtable gardens we had on the side of the house and down where the extra garage is now? I never planted spices but I did try lettuce and brocolli. I think the best crop was peas. They seldom made it to the house because we shelled them and ate them fresh. You come by your planting naturally. Do you remember grandpa's gardens? He always had trouble with deer. I wish you had seen the gardens your great gradfather (Silva) created. He had one going in about 4 different houses. Nothing was fenced in then and they were surround by widows so he planted a garden in each of their yards. It would take all morning to check and water all the plants. I loved it. He's also the grandfather that had a worm farm for creating great mulch for his gardens and to supply his fishing buddies. The best part of his gardens were the carrots and berries. Whenever the grandkids helped, the berries never made it to the kitchen for jamming. (hey check this out - I finally wrote something)

Love you both - Mom

Nastersiums grow like a weed around here, that is my bet for winner. Good luck, call me when the tomatoes are ready!
